Harry M. Werksman Jr. is an American television screenwriter and producer.
Harry Werksman overcame being born in Pittsburgh (though it is the home of his beloved Steelers) by spending the first seven years of his life moving between Pittsburgh (his Dad’s business), Palm Springs (his Dad’s a golfer) and Scotland (his Mom’s Scottish). He finally landed in Palm Springs only to head off to prep school in Rhode Island at the St. George’s School, college at Northwestern University (BA – Political Science & History) and then grad school at New College, Oxford University, England.
After receiving a Masters of Letters degree in early 17th century English ecclesiastical history, Harry came to LA to pursue the crazy dream of writing for television.
After a few years toiling as a political speech writer (Winner Wagner and Associates) and then working a variety other odd Hollywood jobs, he landed his first writing gig as the Head Writer of the Internet science fiction series EON-4. Eventually, he sold a pitch to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, found an agent, got his first staff job and was off and running.
His credits include VIP, Earth: Final Conflict, Farscape, Deathlands: Homeward Bound, Veritas: The Quest, Grey’s Anatomy, Ugly Betty, Moonlight and Castle.
He has also sold four original network pilots, one of which was chosen by the Writers Guild of America, West as one of the best pilots in its 5th Annual Unproduced Scripts competition.
Harry has been nominated for two Emmys and three WGA Awards. He has won a WGA Award for Grey’s Anatomy, a People’s Choice Award for Moonlight, and a Saturn Award for Moonlight.
